An engine that uses a magnetic ram scoop to collect matter from the interstellar medium and compress it to fusionable pressures, then allow the exhaust to escape through a rocket nozzel, thus producing thrust.
The Bussard ramjet works on a similar principle to traditional air-breathing ramjets used within the atmosphere.
The Bussard Ramjet is the cheif cruising engine used by the Hawk-class escort fighter, with the Ion-Vacuum drive use for main acceleration and manuvers.
