Falling Sky is a short story from The Concourse to Victory, the third volume of the Course Books series. Chronologically, Falling Sky takes place immediately after Flight of the Takahe from the previous volume, The Road to War, and finished up the plotline left unanswered by that story.

In Falling Sky we see the first (chronological) appearance of the Star Hammer, in which an unfinished ground-test version of the spacecraft is modified to deflect an incoming asteroid which nearly ruined the Takahe test flight in the previous book.
