Provincial Rowen refers to a series of regions outside Rowen proper, which maintain a similar culture and mutual affiliations. These regions are semi-autonomous and very in terms of ethnic makeup. Cartesia is one such province. The northern provinces are known for holding a strong nationalistic Rowen national identity while also breaking with many established Rowen customs and traditions. The northern regions engage more heavily in trade and resource exploitation, providing coal and logging, as well as most of Rowen's food exports. This is the only part of Rowen where land ownership is held, with the majority of the territory belonging to a small handful of wealthy families.
