On flat worlds with traversible edges, what becomes of those who fall over? Do they keep falling without let or hindrance? Or cling to the sides of a columnar base? Or plunge into an inescapable pit? Or what? There's plenty of potential for stories there, about airborne cities, or cliff-dwellings, all of exiles, or of dead men floating in the mist for ever.
