Theorycraft
So the latest idea is to move most of the switching equipment in to the other room be the computers. This is apparently the correct way to do this.
However, for various reasons, I still need SOME switching capacity in the room with me.
Needed:
- Raspberry pi
- work laptop
- 2 lines from the other room
- some spare capacity.
- will have 2 ports left
The plan is to use Jerusalem, the 6x2 matrix to drive John and Thomas. Jerusalem will be linked to both Eden and Egypt(basically the reverse of the current config.
Much of the rest of the config will stay as-is, with most of the HDMI cables going directly to monitors. I might even be able to use my monitor detect killer at long last.
Other Elements
The new configuration will involve relocating Beowulf to the wire rack. I kind of prefer this idea because its always bugged me that Beowulf isn't rack mounted. This will involve re-configuring the wire rack and a nearly complete and total re-cable.

The cat5 KVM will be unaffected by the move. Beowulf is also fully capable of driving a signal directly. For interim capacity, I will run HDMI 6 directly into the monitor and use Beowulf with only 1 screen. Work Laptop will run into a second port for the time being using available capacity. This will allow me to work on the rest of the system without completely interrupting my abilities.
