The new idea is to press 6x2(Jerusalem) back into service to add additional ports. In this system, Inputs 7 on Egypt and Eden would take the outputs from the 6x2, giving me 6 additional ports for both devices. The discover of cheap shallow racks makes converting it to rack mount a trivial process.

The challenge would then be controlling it, since it takes the same IR signals as Eden and Galilee.

2 outputs A&B

  • A - Eden prt 7 using HDMI C
  • B - Egypt prt 7 using HDMI D

6 inputs 1-6 1 - 13 2 - 20 3 - 21 4 - 18 5 - HDMI E 6 - HDMI F

hdmi 19 into egypt port 5

Under the new system, Jerusalem will be eliminated. Egypt, Eden, and Galilee will form the core of the switching matrix. Egypt will continue to drive John, while Galilee will act as an auxiliary to provide additional 2k inputs. Bethlehem will remain on station to handle the VGA screens. Nazareth has been relocated to the wire rack and will instead be hooked directly to Zion. Under the new program, VGA3 is reversed, to allow sending video back across the bridge to Mathew.

Eden will operate Mark, Paul, Thomas, and Simon. It will also be hooked to VGA3 to send signals back across the bridge to Zion. Eden will also have a connection to John in order to to facilitate picture-in-picture.

Consider: move all 2k sources off of Egypt and over to Galilee. Less convenient, yes, but frees up additional 4-k ports currently lacking.

Current setup:

  • 1 Beowulf - 4k
  • 2 Waterloo - 4k
  • 3 Blue - 2k
  • 4 Work PC - 4k
  • 5 Hydra - 2k
  • 6 ToddIII - 2k
  • 7 Retro - 2k
  • 8 Gaililee - 2k

Of the 8 ports, 5 are running 2k sources, AND there is no space for the pi to connect at 4k. This is a waste.

So, when we do the rebuild, everything 2k is getting moved over to Galilee with a possible exception of Todd, which does get some good use being convenient. If we move Blue, Hydra, and Retro, we'd have 3 extra 4k inputs. On the rare occasions I DO use those PCs, I can set them on Galilee and still be able to access fairly easily.

Originally I had planned to have port1 on Galilee go to Nazareth, but am re-thinking that. Here's my first draft:

Egpyt:

  • 1 Beowulf - 4k
  • 2 Waterloo - 4k
  • 3 ???
  • 4 Work PC - 4k
  • 5 ???
  • 6 ToddIII - 2k
  • 7 ???
  • 8 Gaililee - 2k

Galililee:

  • 1 Eden
  • 2 Nazareth
  • 3 Blue
  • 4 Vault
  • 5 Hydra
  • 6 ???
  • 7 Retro
  • 8 ???

Since all of the 2k PCs being moved also go to Eden, i have the option to make port8 on Egypt be their screen. When I get the multi-viewer added to the mix that'll make life even easier.
