Dragon Burn-Stocking

Burn-Stocking is a dragon practice much maligned by civilized flights. Normally, the population of a dragon flight increases very slowly. A flight in burn-stocking instead tries to produce a large number of offspring in a short amount of time, having its breeding pairs produce clutches of eggs every year. This kind of growth is unsustainable, and would cause mass starvation by the time the first brood reached maturity.

The reason for burn-stocking is to produce warriors for battle, under the assumption that many of them will die before reaching maturity. A Red as young as fifteen can make a capable fighter, especially if employed alongside dozens of brothers and sisters in a tackle-formation against a much larger enemy.

Burn-stocking is detested by most dragon flights, but occasionally recognized as a necessary evil. By the end of the Mage Wars, the only flights still using the practice were fallen flights.
