The Gudersnipe School Geological Survey, or GSGS for short, is a branch of the Foundation administered by the school which is responsible for producing, maintaining, and updating detailed topographical maps os essentially anywhere the Foundation might need to send troops, ever.

Maps are typically produced via satellite imagery and cataloged as part of the Foundation's database. Depending on the region, some of the maps are made available for public use. Every mapped quadrangle has been printed at some point or another, but no single archive contains a complete set of paper maps.

The GSGS database is estimated to have fully mapped roughly 10% of the surface area of the Known Worlds. The maps are more complete on round worlds, however many flat dimensions remain largely unchecked. Even the dimension that contains Arindell has not been fully mapped.

Official Designation

The Geological Survey was originated by a division of the Crimson Blade, and was refereed to simply as 'the geological survey'. When the program was placed under the jurisdiction of the school, it became the Gudersnipe School Geological Survey (GSGS for short). During the Kamian Succession Wars as various governments and powers joined in, standardizing their topographical information, it became known as the Gudersnipe System Geological Survey. However, as the school was still heavily involved, official documentation had to display the full title as Gudersnipe School Gudersnupe System Geological Survey, or GSGSGS for short. Possibly the most GS-program ever undertaken.
