A hybrid cannon is a type of charged particle cannon that uses lasers to form a lens which more effectively focuses the beam, thus increasing the effective range and the power of the weapon. The over-all power of the beam weapon is the same, but the focus means more effective power is delievered, less confinement required, and the energy delivered to the target is considerably greater.
