Johan Fernel was a physicist working during the early years of the Mage Wars, during the First Chaotic Period, sometime between B.G.A. 3350 and 3500. Nearly all details about his life are now completely lost, including the name of the country he worked in.

Debate has been raised at various times as to whether or not Johan actually existed. By the end of the Mage Wars, his work was very widely known, but had been attributed to numerous sources who republished it for personal gain. The question is still argued at times, and the only solid proof is that Johan Fernel has the earliest dated record for the work.

Johan is widely regarded as the father of modern physics, inventing the the three primary laws. He is roughly analogous to Sir Isaac Newton of the real world.

Kit Fernel was a later physicist who claimed to be descended from Johan.
