This is an overview of the basic areas included in the game.

The Mountain Kingdom

The Mountain Kingdom is where the player begins and where they will return at various points throughout the game. It includes the Mountain Castle, a set of shops, some important NPCs, and a few other buildings and junk to act as window dressing.

The Mountain Castle

This is where Princess Nadine initially spawns. She has her royal chambers which include some extra storage and a bed that heals her. This is also where she respawns when the player inevitably kills her. In the Mountain Castle can also be found The King and The Mystic, who are the primary quest-givers.

The Valley Kingdom

Located geographically near the Mountain Kingdom but still a pretty good walk, the Valley Kingdom is the largest city. It includes the same ameneties and a lot more window dressing, and also the Valley King, who probably won't get much of a name. You can visit him, but he's no help.

The Dark Forest

Not really all that dark and not much of a forest. The Dark Forest is found right outside the Mountain Kingdom and is basically a region dotted with trees. There are some low rises and a few streams and ponds. There's a path that winds right through the forest to the desert beyond, but following the path will force you to skip the sub-boss, the Scarecrow, who lives in the forest. The Scarecrow will be fairly challenging but ultimately the easiest of the sub-bosses.

The Arcade

Tucked off in a corner of the forest you will find an arcade. Questions at this point are downright silly. Inside the DDR Guy can always be found. There is also a prize counter where you'll find the Merchant, where he is acting as a normal shopkeeper. If possible, some of the games will be playable and reward prize tickets which can be traded for special items.

Outside the arcade is the first of several secret subway stations. This one looks abandoned and is quite filthy, but it still works. There is also a mountain path here which serves as a shortcut into the Swamp of Sorrow, which is a very high-level areas.

The Desert

The desert is a large area filled with ancient ruins. It includes The Sandstalker, one of the four sub-bosses. No one lives in the desert and no real explanation is ever offered for why it's full of ruins. Each pyramid includes a mini-dungeon, with one that holds the Lich which you kill as a side-quest.

The Sandstalker can be found randomly in this area, or he can be summoned by removing the Pyramidians from all but one pyramid.

The Grasslands

The Grasslands are home to the Barren Pine Village. A few more powerful enemies can be found in this region.

Barren Pine Village

A small village on the egde of the grasslands (it was originally much further from the desert, but deserts have a way of expanding). It includes a subway station and the basic amentities. In this area, the player can also find an infinite XP-exploit we are intentionally leaving in there. Basically, you can slaughter the town's cattle for small amounts of XP (they don't fight back) and they will respawn fairly quickly. There is no actual penalty for doing this; it just doesn't get you very much XP and it makes the townspeople cry. They'll still sell you stuff but you'll get a lot of side villagers wailing and crying. Then if you slay enough, a burger joint opens up to sell all of the surplus meat.

The Coast

The Coast is just another simple area, there is no sub-boss here, just a few more powerful monsters to fight and a little village. There's some ocean you can go swimming in, maybe some underwater dungeons, and an island.

Island

SomethingOrOther Island is located off the coast (near the imaginatively-named "Coastal City"). It is a small island covered mostly by a ruined temple and lots of big bad and tough (for the time you'll reach the island) mobs. There is also a secret subway station here.

The island is optional and not really part of the quest. If you can beat the boss monster you'll get some neat items.

The Headlands

The Headlands occupy a large chunk of the game world, and are basically the pre-game grinding area. You'll find a little village here (and a subway station) as well as a lot of variously leveled monsters you can fight. This is the best place to go grinding for XP.

The Swamp of Sorrow

This is one of the more difficult areas and the home of the Bog Engine, the last machination you must face to gain access to Wayne's region. It does not have a subway station but can be reached via a shortcut from the arcade.

Wayne Areas

Surpsiringly, the player is only at about the mid-point in the game when they finally gain access to Wayne's zone. There is one final subway station, here, but otherwise they must make an assault on the place and eventually fight their way into his inner sanctum. Fortunately, once you get inside, there's not a lot of walking left, just a lot of exploring.

Reaching the Death Fortress

In order to reach the Death Fortress, the player must access Wayne's Powerplant and shut it down. They can reach the plant by passing through one of two areas, with the ability to access a third.

Wayne’s Mine

The mine is a big, complex maze of tunnels full of mostly easy to kill robots, designed specifically to confuse and disorient the player. Hidden within is a cache of Fortify potions. No boss.

Wayne’s World

This one is a creepy amusement park, full of rides and mobs. The boss is a scary clown you have to beat to open up the path to the next area. You can find a lot of good items here and there is also quite a bit of exploring to do.

Wayne Manor

The manor can be accessed either through the mine or from the park. It's basically Wayne’s house. Unlike the rest of the place which is full of clutter and garbage and rust, the manor is pristine, spotless. It is roamed by robot butlers and maids, all of whom are really easy to kill. The boss is a giant Big-O knockoff called The W. Killing The W will give you access to some good items you may or may not want, and this is basically an optional side-quest.

Wayne’s Power Plant

This is the brass ring for the Death Fortress: shutting down the power opens the gates and allows you to get inside. Alternately there are one or two back ways in, but by shutting down the plan you can disable most of the tower's defenses, and it gets a lot easier. This is to be one of the scarier environments, the power plant contains a lot of catwalks with no rails over boiling pits of crap which will kill you if you touch it. The boss for this area is a robot covered in radioactive slime.

Wayne’s Death Fortress

Wayne’s Death Fortress is devided into two zones: his factory at the base, and his tower. All zones are named Wayne’s [BLANK]. To rescue Princess Ashlynne, the player must fight their way through the factory and scale the tower.

Wayne’s Factory

The factory is full of tough Machinations that respawn frequently. If the Powerplant was shut down, the respawn rate will be dramatically lowered and the player will be able to smash up all the machines and end the spawning. The end-boss is a giant factory machine with a ridiculous amount of hit-points. Fighting it will be a considerable challenge depending on the player's level and gear.

Wayne's Tower

This is it. This is the final area. To reach Wayne and the princess, you must fight your way through a tower full of Wayne's minions. These aren't robots for a change, and the tower actually looks like an office building on the inside. Each level is a sort of semi-mze the player must fight their way through to reach the next set of stairs. Each level needn't be cleared. Every three levels an elevator can be unlocked which goes back to the bottom of the tower.

The tower has fifteen levels in all, making it a sort of reverse-Diablo scenario. On the sixteenth level you will find Wayne and Ashlynne. Surprisingly, you can actually rescue Ashlynne basically by talking Wayne into letting her go. Killing him is optional. He's worth a lot of XP and some good items, but its not necessary to the plot.

Post-Game Quest

This is technically part of a side-quest but will most likely be completed after the main quest. Legends speak of a powerful artifact located "on the Plateau of Fate, beyond the Valley of Forever, and past the Dragons of Destiny".

Valley of Forever

The Valley of Forever is the home of the Dragons of Destiny. The valley is accessed through a narrow pass in the Swamp of Sorrow, and the dragons are exactly what it says on the tin. These are big, tough, powerful monsters that must be defeated in order to reach the end of the valley

Plateau of Fate

This is actually just a giant, open, windswept vista that appears to stretch out forever in all directions. There are no monsters here, only a single structure appearing as an outdoor temple. Upon an altar in this temple, the player will find some sort of ludicrously powerful, game-breakingly awesome weapon. It's fitting, since to get here you've already defeated the most powerful monsters in the game.
