MV Equipment

Despite being a princess, Nadine is just all about swords. Weapons are far more important in this game and will have the highest variability and availability. There are few equipment slots (mostly jewelry) and knowing which equipment is best is very easy.

Equip Slots

There are seven in total:

  • Earing
  • Earing
  • Necklace
  • Ring
  • Ring
  • Armor
  • Right Hand
  • Left Hand

There will be no dual-wielding in this game; you can equip either a two-handed weapon or a sword and shield. Jewelry will give various stat bonuses(Nadine: "Because they make me feel pretty!") and there is no helmet slot (Nadine: "That would mess up my hair.")

Armor

Armor primarily revolves around a suit of hot-pink armor that Nadine already has when the game starts. This can be upgraded throughout the course of the game by bringing the town blacksmith other suits of armor. Also, if the player doesn't like the pink stuff, they can wear whatever armor they want. There are only three other armors in the game, but they can have various ACs and augment slots depending on level.

  • Leather
  • Chain
  • Plate

Obviously plate has the best AC. AC is also dependent on the level of the armor. The pink armor looks the same no matter what you do to it, but whenever you find better armor you can bring it to the blacksmith to have it upgraded. The pink will always use the highest AC of any armor and the highest augment slot count of any armor. So if you find a suit that has better AC but fewer augments, you can upgrade without concern.

The very best armor in the game will have 8 augment slots and probably some ridiculous amount of AC.

Jewelry

Stat-boosts are the soul domain of jewelry. There are five stats and five pieces of jewelry. All stat bonuses stack, so just throw the stuff on and make yourself look pretty (actually, jewelry will likely have no impact whatsoever on the character's physical appearance).

Weapons

Weapons are the most integral part of the game. While there are only four different types, we will be creating as many different weapons as is physically possible. My target would be in the neighborhood of four hundred. I like a game with a lot of unique weapons; stuff like armor and jewelry isn't as interesting.

Each weapon really only has three important characteristics: type, augment slots, and damage. I wonder if I can throw everything in an excel spreadsheet for easy editing? Well anyway, we can recycle models but I want to make tons and tons of unique weapons.

Nadine is all about swords. She's a sword nut and a sword snob. She'll use whatever weapon you give her, but her dialogue will change if it's not a sword. Mostly she'll complain. This has no impact whatsoever on the game.

Item Augments

Weapons and armor can have augment slots. These are sockets in which the player can place magical orbs that give it a special effect. There are damaging orbs for weapons, AC orbs for armor, plus skill and resistance orbs. The slots are colorless, any orb can go in any slot; but the orbs themselves have colors to denote what they are for.

  • Blue Orbs: damage effects, usually just a variable extra damage value. These also allow Nadine to perform special moves.
  • Red Orbs: resistance effects, this is how you get magical resistance. AC orbs are also red.
  • White Orbs: skill effects; these can improve your ability with weapons or armor.

Orbs can be freely slotted and removed, there is no restriction. It might be a bit tough to do this mid-combat but still feasible. You can also expect Nadine to make a lot of jokes about the orbs being testicles, especially when she kills monsters that drop orbs :P Variations abound: a defeated monster may be said to 'lose its marbles' or 'drop the ball', or Nadine herself may 'have the ball in her court', or 'be on the ball', or any other similar saying.
