Wyvern

Often called "the feathered dragon", wyverns are a species of Mystical Creature. They are smaller than dragons and lack shape-shifting abilities, though are just as intelligent. Because some dragons have feathers, it can be difficult to tell the two species apart. Wyverns are specifically characterized by their large beaks and comparatively smaller statures; reaching, at full maturity, about the size of a red Dragon. Like dragons, they come in many varieties and do not have specific breeds, but the majority are feathered, with scaled wyverns being born at about the same frequency as feathered dragons. While they do have dragon-like heads, they always have bird-like beaks and lack teeth. Dragons are occasionally born who can pass for wyverns.

Much like Saurento, the similarities to dragons are completely superficial. Genetically and physiologically, they are an entirely different species. However, further complicating matters; wyvern and dragons can interbreed (the same as humans and dragons), and it is not uncommon to find the two species sharing the same eerie and living together.

While wyverns posses powerful magic, they lack the same nature-enhancing abilities as dragons. For this reason, they can commonly be seen keeping flocks of animals (much the way humans do). While they prefer to hunt, maintaining an ongoing food supply is more important. Wyverns subsist primarily on meat, but can be seen eating plant-matter when other sources of food are unavailable.
