The Brutish Sea is an ocean surrounded on three sides by the Greater Continent, with the bulk of the continent on the east side and Modia to the west. The ocean is along the Sword Coast and is home to many islands. The Brutish is known for very severe, fast storms. The name comes from ancient mariners, who described the mood of the sea as enchanted, able to go from a dead calm to very fierce storms with little warning.
Despite the severe storm patterns, the sea has been a conduit for trade since time immemorial, with mariners preferring to "brave the Brutish" than to make a years-long overland trip.
Legends of Lost Civilizations of the Greater Continent mention the Brutish as the home of the mysterious "Sea People" who raided settlements along the Sword Coast.
