History

Brief history taken from Falling Dragon:

“The Kiss of Ruthia,” she breathed. “But it’s been lost for centuries—millennia!” “You have no idea,” Hunter chuckled. “When your ancestor, a Paladin named Taskin fought in the Necromantic Wars, he carried this sword by his side, and won many battles.” “Until he died in the war,” Ruthia finished. “Is that what you heard?” Hunter raised an eyebrow. “Just a guess,” Ruthia shrugged. Hunter laughed good-naturedly. “Actually, he lived to be a hundred and two. But you see, Taskin never actually fought with the sword, he used a two handed mace. He just carried this weapon for luck. During one particularly harrowing battle, a gray necromancer got a little too close. “Taskin wasn’t injured, but the necromancer’s dagger cut through the leather straps holding the sword, and it fell. That was when the Kiss of Ruthia became lost for over thirty seven centuries.” “My family has been searching for that sword for a long time,” Ruthia whispered. “My parents even named me after it. Hunter, Pendragon, how did you get it?” “The story of that blade’s journey is a long and mysterious one,” Hunter replied as he lifted the weapon from the table and placed it in Ruthia’s outstretched hands. “It was forged at the beginning of the Mage Wars by Rucalia’s daughter, a being who was half human, half Monster God. She poured her power into it, and with it helped Eieber end the wars. It was passed down through the ages by her descendants, until it came into the hands of a Paladin named Taskin. “After the battle where Taskin lost it, the sword went into a mass grave, where it lay for thirty two years. “When Soratami imprisoned the Necromancers, he ordered all the mass graves left over from the war destroyed. Of course quite a few impressive items were recovered when they excavated those pits, and this sword was stolen by grave robbers. It changed hands in the gangs for a few centuries before it was finally seized in a police raid and buried in the evidence storage room. It stayed there for close to fifty years. “Then it went to a museum for a time and was lost again, this time in the museum basement. The museum was looted and the artifacts destroyed, only one room locked away in a sub basement was left untouched. The decayed ruins of the building were left alone for three hundred years, until it became a relic all its own. “The artifacts found in the hidden room joined a traveling display. They were put on a ship, bound for another continent, which sank halfway. “The Kiss of Ruthia lay on the ocean floor for twenty centuries, in a forgotten shipwreck. Two ages passed, and the Sixth Age began. The sword was recovered in a deep water excavation, and taken by a young Kamian officer as a souvenir. For a while, the sword became an heirloom in someone else’s family. “The sword stayed in that family for a long time, until it was seized as a battle trophy by a member of the Gudersnipe Western Fleet.” “You’ve had it!” Ruthia gaped. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” “I… kind of lost it,” Hunter smiled nervously. “In my closet. And I had forgotten I had it.”
