Lelroughodaism is a religion that venerates Lelroughodai, the deified presence of the dragon sorceress Lelerough. It is a form of Dragon Worship. Though it never achieved massing popularity, Lelroughodaism became quite widespread with a cadre of very devout followers, especially in the Djr Archipelago and other remnants of the Dragonlands.

Basic Tenets

Lelroughodaism is a largely fear-based religion with an underpinning of loyalty and hope. Those who love Lelroughodai unconditionally will always be protected, while those who despise her will be crushed. This does not extend to service, as practitioners are encouraged the question and refuse. Only love is required. One must love Lelroughodai with all their hearts, and out of love should desire to follow her commands.

Branches

Two major branches of Lelroughodaism formed: Shadow Lelroughodaism, and Fire Lelroughodaism. Most practitioners follow one or the other, but many temples combine the two, often in unique and contradictory ways.

Shadow Lelroughodaism

Shadow Lelroughodaism is a religion of purity and completeness. Lelroughodai is worshiped as a transcendent being of pure light and a force of good, who protects all that love her with her shadow (hence the name). In this interpretation, Lelroughodai is considered to have ascended to godhood. Practitioners celebrate her ever-lasting life and revel in her protection; Shadow Lelroughodaism includes numerous feasts and festivals in which the celebration of protection and safety are tantamount.

Shadow Temples are typically open to the air and filled with large, high columns. On clear days, the columns cast shadows, behind which the faithful kneel and worship. The columns are decorated with images of Lelroughodai on the sunward side. Statues are also common, but few temples can afford statues large enough to cast reasonably-sized shadows.

Offerings of food are presented on altars, then ritually consumed.

Fire Lelroughodaism

Fire Lelroughodaism is a much darker practice. Its practitioners believe that Lelroughodai is dead, but will one day rise again to "continue her grand work" of smiting the evil and wicked. The faithful pray for this day, and make offerings of weapons.
