MPNP Improvised Weapons

In the event that a character is left unarmed, they may use the MPNP Flourish system with any random object to "improvise" a weapon. The rules are as follows:

  • Must be a successful flourish
  • Item being used must, in some way, resemble the type of weapon the character is used to
  • Item must have characteristics such that it's use as a weapon would be effective.

Example: A character skilled in the use of blunt weapons picks up a heavy tree branch from the forest floor. Assuming the flourish is successful, they can wield the weapon with full attack dice.

Bad Example: At a dinner party, the same character is forced to fight, and takes up a leg of mutton. No matter how good the flourish is, this just isn't going to make a halfway decent weapon.

On Damage

Obviously, the character should not receive full damage equivalent to their standard weapon. But, if the flourish was good, and the object being used is reasonable, give it base damage similar to the weapon type being mimicked.

On Specialization

A character with an emphasis on, say, bladed weapons, is not likely to find something they can use "like a sword". In this case, consider facets and specialization coupled with how the improvised weapon is to be used. If they have a focus on 1-handed weapons and are wielding a club one-handed, let them run with it.
