The Black Sword

The Black Sword is the name of a famous enchanted sword housed in the collection of The Arsenal of Freedom on Arden Song. It is considered one of the rarer items in the collection and is extremely valuable. It is also the subject of some rumors. The name comes from the metal of the blade, which is very black and of an unknown composition. The hilt and cross-guard of a style consistent with the late high Marconian style, indicating it was probably forged at the very height of their empire, roughly one thousand years before the start of the Golden Age. The earliest proven provenance of the sword is 300 B.G.A..

Proported History

The Black Sword is supposed to be the Eclipse Itself: a legendary 'evil twin' to the Sword of Righteousness; and thus, identified with a number of legendary swords, carried by equally famous heroes and villains throughout the Mythical Age and later Mage Wars. Like all pieces in the Arsenal, it is said to have been wielded by one of the many mighty defenders of the Arden Star Empire, though details are sketchy as to who.
