The Flux Drive, often described as "An Ion-vacuum drive on steroids", is an advanced engine system designed by Joshua Jusenkyou and later deployed on the Sahar Jusenkyou MkII-Class Carrier during the Age of the New Day.

Operating Principles

The Flux Drive is based on modifications to the Ion-Vacuum drive design. In addition to compressing ordinary matter until it undergoes nuclear fusion, a flux drive continues the compression until the actual atoms themselves are split apart, forming quark-gluon plasma. This was first done by accident on the Saratoga, but Joshua was able to refine the principles and apply them to the Linear ion vacuum drive.

The end result was a capitol-class warship capable of reliable 85PSL+, which was also mass-produced. The drive was also dual-mode, able to function effectively as a regular linear drive.

Deployment History

The success and over-all versatility of the Sahar Jusenkyou MkII-Class Carrier made no further fleet revisions necessary; while variants and upgraded versions were produced, the basic MkII design with it's Flux Drive were still in service by the sixth century N.D., the longest production-run of any capitol-class ship.
