Had the hyperspace window technology worked, it may have revolutionized inter-stellar propulsion.
As a propulsion method, it was a miserable failure. In simplest terms, the device was just as likely to send you a thousand light years as it was to send you one. A series of experiments conducted by the Saratoga determined that nearly everything affected the system, and the variables were far too many to measure and control.
