Pillars are a lot like Skill Trees, only not, because they don't branch. Each Class and Race gets access to a series of Pillars, and gains points to spend on these at level up. Each Pillar essentially represents a single trainable skill that unlocks new abilities along the way. They are focused around the thing that makes that class great, whatever "Holds it up", much like the pillars of a great hall. Also like said pillars, they are often the only thing left standing when the rest has fallen.
