Traditionally, each of the Course Books begins with a story who's title ends in "of a Dragon". It began with The Wings of a Dragon from The Path to Ascension, and by the time The Road to War was being prepared for publication, it was decided to make it a tradition. The five stories are:

Why?

The five parts were chosen because of my fondness for the dragon-cycle from the Magic the Gathering(R) Invasion cartset. Each dragon had an "attendant", and each attendant card had a quote on it refering to the dragon as the "something" of the Ur-Dragon.
