The Metal Maiden is an enchanted sword of exceptionally high craftsmanship. Though typically attributed to David, it was most likely forged during the high Dynastic Period of the Mage Wars, owing to unbelievable degree of quality.

A single-edged cruciform sword with a curved blade, the weapon is notable for being comprised of a single piece(instead of a separate cross guard, hilt, and tang). Much like an over-sized knife. The sword is furthy notworthy for the shaped feminine figure on the handle(from which it draws its name). From a pure craftsmanship standpoint, the sword is possibly the finest example of smithing ever recorded.

The enchantments are similarly extremely powerful. The edge can cut through most enchanted armor, and the spine has similar properties to a Hakens Guard(a strike with the spine will produce an effect similar to striking with an extremely heavy weight, while the sword remains light in the wielder's hand). The sword is also preternaturally light, as if hollow and made from aluminum, yet strikes from it deal considerable force. The blade can produce Izuna in the hands of even an amatuer, and it is thought that simply holding the sword confers some level of capability.

The sword is most likely made of an alloy of some kind, extremely strong in its own right and backed up by powerful permanent enchantments. The alloy may even contain Mithril, though no accounts survive of a mage holding it.

Comparisons

Many have compared the sword to Echbalder in both quality of craftsmanship and power of enchantments.

History

Proposed Origins

Most of the stories attached to the Metal Maiden claim it was wrought by the great alchemist known as David, but the style of construction and quality date it to a later period. Most telling, because the figure of a woman makes up the handle and cross guard, it could not have been made by the Marcon Alliance. Some historians speculate the specific form was created expressly to keep the Marcons from ever using the blade.

The blade was definitely forged on Aren, most likely at the hands of a now-lost civilization in The Interior of the Greater Continent
