The Koldathas are a family of Necromancers who live two doors down from Scarlet Jusenkyou in Arindell. They are generally nice and well-liked. Mrs. Koldatha occasionally babysat Scarlet. The family lives in the Maple Dew neighborhood because Flav Koldatha, the father, is a director for Arindell's Rec Center Network, specifically working as a parks supervisor.

  • Flav - father
  • Gildana - mother
  • Tenalafel - eldest daughter (Born N.D. 506)
  • Emily - youngest daughter (Born N.D. 509)

Flav Koldatha

Flav is one of the more colorful residents of the Maple Dew suburb. A fully fledged Servant in the House of Truth, he wears black robes and has had the traditional necromancer eye makeup permanently tattooed under his eyes as a sign of his devotion. He is considered very orthodox by necromancer standards. His neighbors consider him to be fairly odd, since he wears socks with sandals and works for the city parks department. That last part is especially egregious because necromancers have their own separate parks and recreation centers around the city. That a member of Arindell's Necromancer Temple in good standing would work for the Rec Center Network is unusual. Of course nothing is ideologically or legally wrong with this arrangement. It just makes him weird.

Flav works as the overseer of the groundskeepers at several rec centers around Arindell. He has a staff to handle all the paperwork and spends his time visiting sites and doing inspections. Every rec center has their own gardening department and on-site staff to handle upkeep and maintenance, they technically report to the individual RCN managers, but as overseer Flav has the final say on things. He tends to be very harsh and unyielding, demanding very high standards. This leaves him not well-liked by the day to day employees. However, as he has zero qualms about picking up a shovel when there is work to be done, he has a grudging respect.

Socially he is generally very well-liked, though many find his dress and mannerisms off-putting. He is tanned and his face is hardened and very weather-beaten from his near-constant time outdoors, and he wears the black robe everywhere outside of work. He is also tall and quite muscular from all the labor he does. This makes him very imposing, however anyone who takes the time to get to know him will find he a very sweet and kind-spoken person.

Though it is not an official part of his duties, he organizes and runs the Friday night dances at the Maple Dew rec center, finds and books bands, etc. Though this work goes unnoticed, he enjoys watching his friends and neighbors have a good time.

Gildana Koldatha

Gildana is conservative almost to the point of not considering herself a necromancer. Though she attends temple with her husband and children and is a natural-born necromancer, her parents were non-practicing and she led a very tan'nesh lifestyle before meeting her husband. They met through a necromancer dating website, and despite the extreme differences in their religiosity have forged a very strong and loving relationship. Gildana is a home-maker and volunteers in a daycare program at the rec center.

Tenalafel and Emily Koldatha

Being 7 and 4 respectively in N.D. 513, the Koldatha children are every bit as eccentric as their parents. Tenalafel dreams of becoming a wizard (specifically a wizard, not a sorceress, but she is 7) though shows not an inkling of magical aptitude. Emily takes more after her father, wearing the traditional eye makeup and black robe (though the prayer robe is technically a male garment, she prefers it because the feminine 'temple dress' is difficult to play in). Emily wishes to become a chantress when she grows up, though like most 4 year olds this is likely to change countless times.

Relationship with the Jusenkyou Family

The Koldathas live down the road and socialize regularly with Roy and Ann. Gildana helped Ann find a preschool for Scarlet, and babysat her on occasion when Babbette Lewis was unavailable. Flav and Gildana spend many evenings at the clubhouse, playing cards and other games with the Jusenkyous. They're not "best friends" by any means, but they get along well and trust each other.

The Koldathas moved to the neighborhood in N.D. 504, when Scarlet Jusenkyou was about 4 years old.
