Shields are a primarily defensive item and, in general, are handy for anyone with a free arm. In order to equip a shield, a character must possess the Shield Proficiency. Having the proficiency also grants them access to Block and Shield Bash.
Mage Wars RPG has three different shield sizes. These are used in calculating block chance and speed penalties.
- Buckler
- Kite
- Tower
Each shield has a base value that is multiplied by the wearer's Shield Proficiency to determine the AC-bonus added.
Detail
- Buckler: bucklers are always made from wood and have some metal. They can have -imbued properties from the wood, like armor this adds to resistance.
- Base: 1.5
- Size: Small
- Kite: kit shields are large, semi-reclangular, and usually made primarily from metal. They can receive an -imbued bonus from the metal.
- Base: 2
- Size: Medium
- Tower: tower sheilds are made from both metal and wood and can recieve an -imbued bonus from either.
- Base: 3
- Size: Very Large
Quality
The Base score which affects AC is modified according to Quality.
- Poor: -1
- Simple: 0
- Fine: +1
- Very Fine: +3
