The Porter's Caravan Company, also known as the Loyal Brotherhood of Porters, is a quasi-fraternal organization specializing in long-distant logistics on the Greater Continent of Aren. The organization has its origins in the mid first century N.D.. In order to have even the remotest chance of constructing New Arindell, then-Pendragon Conri Jusenkyou required the use of the old canal system connecting Stormreaver Valley to the Agras.

The first caravans formed to support these remote work camps, and used mule trains. Porters swore an oath on Echbalder to deliver the needed supplies, on time, every time, rain or shine. Thousands of workers in isolated camps would live or die by the supplies delivered by these caravans, so it was considered very important business.

By the time the canal was restored to operation, the various caravan teams had formed close bonds and a high degree of expertise handling cargo in difficult circumstances. The Loyal Brotherhood of Porters formers initially as an expression of that bond, but their work wasn't done yet.

As reconstruction of Aren continued, many remote sites sprang up. New sources of raw materials, such as iron and manganese, needed to be exploited for construction projects. Mine owners in turn went to the Porters. As the decades passed, the Brotherhood morphed slowly into a loose guild overseeing logistics operations all over the continent. The New Day Alliance always employed Porters-trained caravans wherever needed.

Buisness

The Loyal Brotherhood of Porters is part fraternal organization, part trade guild. Their primary function is to train new caravan workers and provide collective bargaining for those involved in the work. Joining the Brotherhood requires an individual accompany at least one caravan trek and impress current members enough to warrant admission.

The Porter's Caravan Company handles the business side. They organize routes, collect payments, and arrange for accommodations. The Porters name is synonymous with long distance, hard to reach places and unwavering reliability.

Most employees work six month on, six month off rotations.

Porters is 100% employee-owned. The company is paid by the job and in retainers. Employees earn shares according to how long they stay with the company, and many become reasonably wealthy.
