Gailen Fleet Revision

The Gailen Fleet Revision was technically begun in A.Y. 6901 and was largely thought uneccessary as the Hyden Fleet Revision had taken place only a year eary and produced several servicable warships. However, Instructor Gailen, who oversaw the revision was considered very influential and essentially given a blank check.

The Gailen Revision produced only three starships:

• G-001-0001 Sahar Jusenkyou-Class Carrier
• G-002-0001 Victory-Class Light Destroyer
• G-002-0001 Hudson-Class Heavy Cruiser

Design Briefs

The Gailen Revision ships are best described as "revolutionary", though Gailen himself preferred the term "whimsically inventive".

Sahar-Class

The Sahar Class Carrier was designed to be a battle group unto itself. The intention was to build a single, massive, multi-roll ship that could more easily be mass-produced. Gailen's design team made major advancements in propulsion, power distribution, and arrangement. The ship could launch fighters, bombers, corvettes, and even the first in a new line of fast-attack gunship that was heavier than a corvette but lighter than a cutter. While a battle group unto itself, the Sahar-class was deisigned to be supported by a series of destroyers and cruisers.

Victory-Class

The Victory was effectively designed as a direct copy of the Saratoga, while incorporating all of the advancments and design changes Hunter made during the ship's service. Armed to the teeth and crewed by soldiers trained specifically in their operation, the light destroyers were perhaps more formidable than the carrier they served.

Hudson-Class

The Hudson saw the fewest Gailen-influences of the revision, and was meant more as a soak/missile cruiser than a standard battery ship. It's basic design and hull geometry made it better suited

History of Revision

The initial stage of the revision produced only one warship, the G-001-001 Sahar Jusenkyou, a Sahar Jusenkyou-Class Carrier. An entirely new birth had to be constructed at Utopia Gregaria to accomodate construction of the new ship, so production was slow, even with the advent of Modular Technology developed during the Hydren Revision.

Despite the initial success and popularity of the Sahar, the Gailen Revision was put on hold while Instructor Gailen devoted his time to more pressing matters. He would not be able to return to it until the Long Night.

With resources very scarce and only facilities available in the School Proper at his disposal, Gailen did not have the ability to construct any metal prototypes. He did, however, have the luxury of an extremly long design-stage and had time for extenvie testing of virtual prototypes. This is why all ships in the Gailen Revision have no letter-type in their registrey numbers: each original design was considered a success.

Though several G-002's and G-003's would be constructed for the Battle of the New Day, the Gailen Fleet Revision did not officially pick up again until N.D. 7, when reconstruction of the fleet began. Gailen's designs were chosen because they were each multi-role ships, and allowed just 3 hull-designs to fullfill every niche of a battle group. This would normally require 6-8 seperate hull designs, depending on the needs of the battle group. The Sahar-class carrier was able to support Harpys, and Gargoyles, as well as Corvettes, thus replacing three seperate carrier-types with one. The Victory-class destroyer was manuverable enough and fast enough to effectively fill the roles of both destroyer and cutter, while packing as much fire power as a cruiser. The Hudson-class heavy cruiser was more of a light battlecruiser, and like it's smaller cousin, the Victory, it had as much firepower as a standard battlecruiser. Finally, the Sahar herself, as a duel-role warship, had as much firepower and armor as a battleship but was still a highly-effective carrier.

The revision was extremly unique in that only three models, design revisions, prototypes, and final production-model vessels were created. All three ships were easily approved and went into production, however few were commissioned before the end of the Long Night.
